The first Home Depot store in the city is expected to open in 2020.
The chain’s chief executive officer, Jim Berenson, said the store is the first of its kind in the country.
“We’re excited to be opening in Philadelphia,” he said in a statement.
“This is a big step forward for our company, and we look forward to working with our community and local leaders to create a strong, healthy and welcoming community.”
The store is scheduled to open on the first floor of the new Home Depot in the former Sears space in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia.
“Home Depot is one of the fastest growing brands in America,” Berenston said in the statement.
“Through our commitment to quality and customer service, we are a leader in community-based retail.”
Home Depot said it is hiring more than 2,000 workers in the Philadelphia area.
Earlier this year, Berenman said the company plans to add about 500 jobs in the region over the next two years.
