Vice News reports that Exxon Mobil is in negotiations with Microsoft to sell a stake in its own cloud-based technology company, Azure.
The deal would be the largest single-source acquisition for Microsoft in recent years.
The news comes on the heels of another major acquisition for the Redmond, Wash.-based company, Microsoft announced on Wednesday.
Exxon and Microsoft will be the first companies to work together to develop a next-generation cloud-oriented software platform called Azure.
It’s likely that Microsoft and Exxon will share some of the same technologies.
The Azure cloud platform will be used in Azure, a platform that allows organizations to store, process, and manage information across a range of cloud- and data center-based services.
